Peebles Bergin Schulte & Robinson LLP is proud to announce that, after a 17-year effort, the Bureau of Indian Affairs has formally accepted the Santee Sioux Nation's off-reservation land in South Yankton, Nebraska into trust. Partner Conly Schulte served as the responsible attorney throughout this long-term project and guided the Tribe through each phase of the fee-to-trust process.
The newly acquired trust land consists of approximately five acres located just across the South Dakota border from the City of Yankton, along Highway 81. The property currently includes a convenience store and fuel plaza and a branch of the Farmers and Merchants State Bank.
Trust acquisition of this land represents a significant milestone in the Santee Sioux Nation's ongoing economic development efforts and supports the Tribe's vision for expanded opportunities in the region. The Santee Sioux Nation invites all tribal members, the public and media to a dedication ceremony that will take place at 10:00am on December 11th, 2025, at the Shop EZ location on Highway 81 in South Yankton, Nebraska.
Peebles Bergin Schulte & Robinson LLP is honored to have assisted the Santee Sioux Nation in achieving this important accomplishment.
