PRIOR LEGAL EXPERIENCE: While in law school, Ms. Real Bird was a student attorney at the Morningside Heights Legal Clinic through her enrollment in the Lawyering in the Digital Age Clinic. Ms. Real Bird successfully represented indigent clients in Fair Hearings before Administrative Law Judges from the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, Office of Administrative Hearings. Ms. Real Bird also interned at Project FAIR while in law school, where she helped create a digital database accessible by Project FAIR directors and volunteers to assist them while they provide Fair Hearing Assistance, Information, and Referrals. Ms. Real Bird was a member of the Native American Law Students Association and a participant in the National Native American Law Students Association Moot Court Competition during law school. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Real Bird performed contract work for the Legislative Branch of the Crow Tribe of Indians researching the historical and legal background to amendments made to their Law and Order Code. Ms. Real Bird’s other prior legal experience includes an internship at the Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services in St. Paul, Minnesota, where Ms. Real Bird worked exclusively on Indian Child Welfare Act cases under the supervision of a Senior Staff Attorney. Prior to joining the firm as an associate attorney, Ms. Real Bird was a law clerk for the firm managing multiple Tribal Court cases, drafting pleadings and motions, drafting legislation, drafting resolutions, and served as a point of communication between the firm and clients, in addition to working in all phases of the firm’s practice.
