PRIOR LEGAL EXPERIENCE: Law clerk, Fredericks, Pelcyger & Hester, LLC (1998-2000)

In 1999, Ms. Hoke worked as a student attorney in the University of Colorado School of Law’s Indian Law Clinic counseling elderly, incarcerated and low-income Indians; drafted a tribal court petition subsequently used to obtain an incarcerated Indian adoptee’s birth records; and counseled the Native People’s Initiative, a non-profit organization working with Habitat for Humanity to increase home ownership on Indian reservations.

Ms. Hoke has subsequently worked on a wide variety of matters. She has drafted and revised various policies used to operate tribal housing programs, including Admissions & Occupancy Policies and Personnel Policies. In a federal civil rights/employment discrimination lawsuit against the United States, she successfully negotiated a monetary settlement for an Indian client. Ms. Hoke has also drafted a comprehensive application and subsequent correspondence to U.S. Congressional representatives to secure $4 million in federal funding for the construction of a new tribal elementary school. She assisted in drafting litigation at the trial level used to successfully defend a tribal elementary school against wrongful termination employment claims in a North Dakota state court case, which was upheld on appeal. Ms. Hoke also successfully defended an Indian Housing Authority against wrongful termination claims in tribal court. In the commercial law area, as local counsel for General Motors Corporation, she has negotiated settlements in multiple warranty lawsuits against the company.

COMMUNITY, LEADERSHIP & VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES: Member and past Secretary-Treasurer of the Colorado Indian Bar Association (CIBA), a nonprofit organization of students and law professionals dedicated to raising scholarship funds for Indian law students attending Colorado’s two law schools.
